One tool. Many benefits. Jelly was created to help improve your back-of-house operations by focusing on the basics. We believe in keeping things simple.
Spending my days in the office sitting next to JJ (their founder), this project had a very straighforward brief, “to hit the ground running and work on building up their design system in Figma and working towards creating the first basic set of user flows”, they had started the UX and had some wireframes in place but still there was lots to do.
The app had to be adapted to desktop since they only had some basic wireframes for a part of the mobile views.
I worked closely with the founder to ensure that all functionality was covered and iteratively made changes to the designs based on user feedback from existing app users.
This set of screens is part of the kitchen’s cookbook where they can manage their recipes and dishes, create new ones, see costs, etc…
Chefs and kitchen managers can use the platform to see ingredients availability and create new orders with suppliers if necessary.
They can also see active orders by supplier, add new suppliers, etc…
This flow shows a chef or kitchen manager adding a new dish to their database.
When adding a new dish, you can add ingredients, alergens, costs and the app will calculate margins and overhead expenses automatically.
Recipes are a bit more advanced as it will allow a chef or kitchen manager to calculate the rations per cooked batch.
When adding ingredients, chefs can also customise their own measurements and units, allowing a much more granular and specific detailed instructions.
They can also add expenses associated with the cost of preparing this recipe from VAT expenses to other costs.
Every kitchen has its own suppliers but this list is not static as they have the capacity to add new ones on the go if they don’t find the specific ingredients they are looking for.
Contacting suppliers and creating new orders for products can be done from the app, then a shopping list can be created and managed directly by the chef.
From there, chefs can also see the current status of their orders and follow up with the suppliers for comments through a chatting functionality.
After only a few months, I left Jelly in good hands and with lots of work to do.
I aligned with their development team and handover the design files to the new design replacement so they could continue working where I left it.
It was a very short contract but very hands-on, working very closely to the founder which allowed me to step into his vision and learn from his experience and knowledge of their service.
I also finished wrapping up the design system in Figma and left them with detailed prototypes they would use when implementing the different solutions.
